Gateway Cities Council of Governments, Sustainable Community Strategy

The Gateway Cities Sustainable Community Strategy under California Senate Bill 375 (2008) Initial Strategy Assessment will come within the context of new statewide regulations related to greenhouse gas emissions.

The rules and guidelines associated with these new laws will be approved between 2010 and 2012. The Gateway Cities Sustainable Community Strategy Initial Strategy Assessment gives the Gateway Cities sub-region the information it needs to navigate a new transportation planning regulatory environment and achieve our State’s aggressive Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction goals. Our Sustainable Community Strategy is comprised of:

• The general location of uses, residential densities, and building intensities within the region
• A transportation network to serve the transportation needs of the region
• Integrated energy conservation and water conservation projects to reduce consumption
• A discussion of how the development pattern and transportation network can work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
• A forecasted development pattern for the region, that, when integrated with the transportation network and policies, will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from automobiles and light trucks
